Since I started my journey in Islam and have been more active on social media and have met many brothers and sisters of religion, I have always come across the following question "Muslims in Brazil?" and I heard more "I never imagined that this was possible, I thought there was no Muslim there".
It was for this purpose that I start my YouTube channel and my personal blog. It shows the world a little bit of Islam in Brazil.
Yes brothers and sisters! This is not only possible, it is also widely seen, especially in southern Brazil. Where you can find some mosques and Muslim communities.
Currently, about 1.5 million followers of Islam live in Brazil (according to the Brazilian Islamic Federation). Across the country, it is estimated that there are eighty centers of Islam and around 50 mosques.
The cities of Foz do Iguaçu, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and São Paulo have the most populous Muslim communities in Brazil. Foz do Iguaçu, for example, is where the largest number of followers of the religion is found (According to research). In all other states of Brazil it is possible to find rooms for prayer and temples. In São Paulo there are approximately 10 mosques, the oldest of which is Mesquita Brasil, founded on the Latin American continent around 1929.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, living in Recife and coming from a family where there is a lot of mixed religions, adapting to religion was not difficult for me, but it was not easy either.
I am part of the Muslim majority who are descendants of Arabs who arrived in Brazil in the First World War. My grandmother on the part of father, daughter of Muslim Arabs arrived with the whole family and stabilized in Recife, still maintaining some customs at the beginning, but that were lost with time. Studying about her history and religion, I felt close to all that, arousing more and more the desire to be part of Islam.
In Recife, our Muslim community, although small, with around 100 members is very active. Our Islamic Center founded by Sheik Mabrouk El Sawy, Muslim and Egyptian, he is the only one in the city and attracts visitors from various locations in the metropolitan region.
Knowing this and realizing the large number of people around the world who do not know Islam in Brazil, invest in the idea of showing little by little what life is like for a Brazilian girl Muslim. In my channel and my social networks will be showing a little of my world, my ideas, routines, religiosity and experiences. I hope that my journey continues and that I can bring much more information to you who accompanies me and seeks to know more about Islam in Brazil.
